Report on the Ham Radio Social at the International Microwave Symposium on May 25 in Anaheim
The Ham Radio Social was a scheduled event at the IEEE International Microwave Symposium. It took place at the Anaheim Hilton on the evening of May 25. This was organized by Jeffrey Pawlan, WA6KBL. There were more than 300 microwave engineers and engineering students that attended and looked at the 14 or 15 exhibits by members of SBMS, the San Diego Microwave Group, a ham from Vermont, a ham from Phoenix, the ARRL Southwestern Division Director and Vice Directors, and Jeffrey from N. Calif. The response was very enthusiastic and showed the attendees how we are utilizing our spectrum allocations. Senior microwave engineers and IEEE officials were amazed at the ingenuity and how well the radios were built and at a small fraction of the cost they would have expected. Several engineers and students indicated that they would study for their ham license as a result. We hope that this educational process will help us preserve our spectrum.
